A quarterly meeting of the Rusk County Local Emergency Planning Committee will be conducted on September 10, 2025 at 10 AM at the Rusk County Emergency Services District #1 Training Facility at 1515 Whippoorwill Avenue in Henderson, Texas.

The Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) are legally mandated organizations established under federal and state law, ensuring that communities have a structured approach to emergency planning.

They play a vital role in educating the public about potential hazards, emergency procedures, and how to respond to different types of emergencies, by helping to identify and coordinate available resources within the community to support emergency response and recovery efforts. By fulfilling these functions, LEPCs contribute significantly to building resilient communities that are better prepared to respond to and recover from emergencies, minimizing potential harm and ensuring public safety.

An agenda is being finalized in preparation for this meeting.

By law, every community is supposed to have a LEPC. In Texas, most LEPCs are county level, although some cover multiple counties, while others cover individual or multiple cities. LEPCs should include representatives from elected offices, agencies, industry, the media, and community groups and the public.
